A Flying Armbar Has Grapplers Rewinding The Footage To Work Out How Anyone Pulled It Off

One leap. Both feet off the mat. A grappler launches into a flying armbar, and the whole exchange turns upside down in a blink.

The move comes from a no-gi match, and it is the kind of attack most grapplers only draw up in their heads. Clock still running, the attacker throws everything into the air, wraps the arm and drags the fight to the floor on his terms. Jiu-jitsu fans have been calling it one of the best submission attempts they have seen, and the replay shows why.

A flying armbar is a gamble. Miss the timing and you are on your back with nothing. Land it and you have turned a standing scramble into a finish in one motion. That commitment is what makes it special, and it is the reason grappling nights fill rooms.

Expect this one to be copied in gyms for weeks. Somewhere, a commentator who lives for this sort of thing would have been out of his seat.
