Chang Noi Muay Thai Shows The Short Elbow Set Up That Traps Your Opponent On The Ropes
STRADDIE. Class is in session at Chang Noi Muay Thai, and the lesson is a short elbow set up that has the other bloke going nowhere.
The breakdown starts with range. Stand too far out and you can't get there. Stand too close and, as the instructor puts it in the video, you've got way too much chance of eating one yourself. So the answer is a measuring stick: find the gap first, then close it.
From there it's all in the grip. Grab hold of the glove, but don't pull it towards you. Slide your body forward, and as you slide, throw the elbow straight up. Body tight to your partner, hand trapped, back against the ropes. He's not going anywhere.
The catch is you can't stay there long. If he lifts his elbow, you're wearing one yourself. So the hit buys just enough time to slide the hand up, turn the hips, take him on the rope and finish with the elbow.
At press time, the ropes were still holding up their end of the lesson.
