Jonathan Haggerty left Tokyo with his bantamweight kickboxing title after stopping Hiroki Akimoto 42 seconds into the third round at ONE SAMURAI 4. The finish came when Akimoto’s corner ended the contest at Ariake Arena on October 17.
Akimoto had moments of success early, including a hook that troubled the champion. Haggerty responded in the third with a right hand and a knee that put the challenger down. Akimoto beat the count, but another sustained attack brought the stoppage.
ONE’s official report records a third successful defence and a US$100,000 performance bonus for Haggerty. It lists his record after the fight as 25–5.
