Thirty-nine years in combat, 26 champions made, and a clear message for New South Wales gyms: stop asking about fight records. Antonio Favuzzi, the founder of Taipan Muay Thai, says a record doesn't make a good trainer, and he plans to prove what does.

Standing in his gym, surrounded by trophies, framed certificates and fight shorts hanging from the ceiling, Favuzzi says too many people don't know the art of Muay Thai or how it got started. Next week he will begin telling the story of how he started Muay Thai in New South Wales, and the 13 years of his life he says he sacrificed to build the sport in the state.

He says he will show what proper Muay Thai looks like and take aim at gyms he calls fake kickboxing gyms that don't know the art.

The résumé behind the talk is long. Favuzzi is a Thailand accredited trainer and a 30-year gym owner. He is a former WMC state heavyweight and super heavyweight champion and a former WMC super heavyweight Oceania champion. He has served seven years as WMC NSW president and sits as a WMC and IFMA referee and judge.

The story starts next week. Every gym in the state has been put on notice.
